Several Dutch Documentaries to Premiere at Roze Filmdagen

(The below text was translated from Dutch

At the 23rd Roze Filmdagen, there are no fewer than three world premieres of Dutch documentaries. They cover a wide range of LGBTQ topics from the radical feminist struggle to the hedonistic paradise of Grand Canaria. In addition, a few nice short films and the entire new season of the online series ANNE +.

The documentaries are followed by interviews with the makers or panel discussions.

The Netherlands 2020, 70 min, Netty van Hoorn

Documentary about the cultural landslide that the lesbian and feminist movement brought about in the 1970s.

The lesbian movement in the Netherlands was a driving force within Dutch feminism in the 1970s. She led the way in activism and was responsible for opening women’s cafes, book stores, magazines, archives and printers. Some initiatives grew to worldwide fame, such as Cinemien and Mama Cash. Festivals were organized, films were made, squats were occupied – everything was changeable, society redefined itself. Netty van Hoorn has captured this cultural landslide in a beautiful documentary with interviews, historical images and film material.
The Netherlands 2020, 58 min, Tim Dekkers

Entertaining sociological portrait of a unique gay phenomenon.

The Yumbo shopping center on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria has traditionally been a top attraction for gays from all over Europe. And that is striking. Because this complex, built in 1982, is one of the most depressing and hideous shopping centers in Europe. Why is it that gay people go to this concrete jungle and see the Yumbo as a magnet for optimal gay entertainment? The documentary follows three loyal visitors and some owners, such as the owner of a cruise bar (TheBunker) and that of a cafe (Adonis). An entertaining sociological portrait of a unique gay phenomenon.

The Netherlands 2020, 70 min.
Annegriet Wietsma

A unique and sometimes hilarious insight into daily life an ideological queer subculture that bravely fights against the creeping gentrification of the city.

The comic “Asterix and the Roman Lusthof” is the inspiration for this documentary: the small Gallic village that is in danger of being surrounded by Roman high-rise buildings with hotels, thermal baths, play palaces and tourists. The center of Amsterdam is turning into one big money machine, but the anarchist queer community Vrankrijk continues to boldly resist the greed that surrounds them. Hip-hop, punk, queer, refugee issues, do-it-yourself, solidarity, anarchos, sharing economy, veganism, globalism, everything comes together in this small microcosm. This meeting place, which is still one of the few last bastions to survive here, forms a stark contrast to the now literally surrounding city in transition: neighbors disappearing, crowds of tourists, five-star hotels, luxury apartments and the more expensive shopping segment. A unique and sometimes hilarious insight into the daily lives of people in an almost ideological subculture who boldly fight against the creeping gentrification in the city they love.
The Netherlands 2018, 45 min, Marieke Slinkert (NB: no world premiere)

Is the football world ready for the first openly gay football player?

Is the football world ready for the first openly gay football player? What is the current situation? The film plunges into the European football world and, among other things, lets presidents Michael van Praag (KNVB) and Chris van Puyvelde (KBVB) speak. Referees, trainers and players from Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain also give their views on the case. “I think there are many men who are gay but don’t dare to come out. Because the macho will go off because they are afraid of being laughed at, “says Riana Nainggolan, player of AS Roma.
Followed by panel discussion.

ANNE + (season 2)
The Netherlands 2020, 200 min, Valerie Bisscheroux

Anne had presented that adult life differently.

After the success of the first season, Anne is finally back: The 24-year-old seems to be happy: a job at a creative agency, she is dating a nice girl, has enough good friends and lives in a great house in Amsterdam. However, she is not going very well. She wants something different, but what and how? If there is an unannounced ex on the sidewalk, while she is already having a fuss with another ex, it is difficult to focus. Her parents have their own things to deal with, so she can’t count on that and her friends sometimes have something else on their mind than Anne’s life. She should really take a look at those bills that pile up on her kitchen table. That adult life is different from what she had imagined. Because how do you do that, balancing friends, family, work and relationships? Pink Film Days is the perfect place to binge watchen together the entire second season. This season even with more and longer episodes !!
